Build 02 · Web & App Development

Web apps and portals people actually use.

A web app is where your staff and customers meet your business every day. If it is slow, confusing or ugly, they route around it — and the process goes back into email. We build the ones people open willingly.

What We Build

Four things, mostly.

Customer portals

Where your clients check status, download documents and do the thing themselves instead of ringing you.

Staff dashboards

The internal screen the team lives in. Built for speed of use over cleverness of design.

Progressive web apps

Installs like an app, works on a bad signal, no app store approval standing between you and a fix.

Booking & scheduling

Appointments, jobs and calendars that survive real-world reschedules rather than assuming nobody moves anything.

Document flows

Upload, review, sign, store — the paperwork spine that most businesses run on email instead.

Anything with a login

Accounts, roles, permissions and audit trails done properly, because that is where quiet security problems live.

The Part Most Builds Miss

Adoption is a design problem.

The most common failure in this work is not a bug. It is a perfectly functional system that nobody uses, because it takes eleven clicks to do the thing that used to take a phone call. The build was delivered, the invoice was paid, and the business quietly went back to how it was.

So we design for the person who is tired, busy and slightly annoyed — the state most people are in when they open a work system. Fewer screens, sensible defaults, and the common path made obvious. If your team has to be trained to use it, we designed it badly.

That is also why design and engineering sit in the same house here. Nothing gets lost in the handover between the people who drew it and the people who built it, because they are the same lab.

Built To Last

Conventional where it counts.

Boring, well-supported technology. Your app should still be maintainable in five years by someone who has never met us. That rules out the clever framework of the month.

Fast on a phone, on bad signal. Measured, not assumed. Most business web apps are tested on office broadband and fall over in a van.

Accessible by default. Keyboard, contrast, screen readers. It is the right thing and it is increasingly the legal thing.

Monitored once live. Something watches it and tells a human when it breaks, instead of your customer being the alarm.

AI where it earns its place. Drafting, summarising, triaging, answering — not sprinkled on to be able to say the word.

Questions

The ones we actually get asked.

What is the difference between a web app and a website?
A website mostly tells people things. A web app lets them do things — log in, submit, track, manage, transact. If your users need an account and the thing changes based on who they are, you want a web app. Plenty of businesses need both, and they are usually built together.
Do we need a mobile app, or will a web app do?
For most business cases a progressive web app is the better answer: it installs to the home screen, works offline, and you can ship a fix in minutes rather than waiting on app store review. A native app earns its place when you need deep device features or store presence, and we will say which is which.
Can it connect to the systems we already use?
Yes, and that is normally the point. Web apps here are built to sit on top of your existing accounting, CRM or operational tools through their APIs, or through integration built for the purpose where no API exists.
What happens after it goes live?
Your choice: your team runs it, or we do. Either way it is monitored, backed up and it recovers on its own. Support levels are set out on the plans page and are optional, not a lock-in.
The Rest of the Lab

These combine.

Most builds use two or three of them together. See all services.

Step One

Start with one honest sentence.

“Here’s what’s quietly eating my week.” Tell Ray in your own words. A clear, priced build path comes back, and a human signs off everything that leaves the lab.
